Want to Dominate Your Market? Start with Your Backyard
Community Isn’t Just a Nice Idea, It’s Your Growth Engine.
Welcome back,
Before we dive in, I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July weekend. Let’s light up the sky, grill like champs, and make the late, great Toby Keith proud…because nothing says “America” like a red solo cup and a backyard full of freedom. 🇺🇸
‘Merica.
Too many contractors chase leads while ignoring the most powerful growth lever they already have: their local community.
If people only know you from your Google listing, you’re just another option. But if they’ve seen you at school events, supported causes with you, and associated your name with generosity? You’ve already won.
Community marketing isn’t fluff. It’s a strategy. It builds brand familiarity, emotional trust, and top-of-mind awareness that no PPC campaign can match.
Here’s how to start owning your market without spending a dollar on ads:
Show Up Where It Matters: Sponsor local sports teams. Volunteer at seasonal events. Partner with schools or shelters. Make your brand part of the community’s fabric.
Lead With Generosity: Give before you sell. Host a coat drive in the winter. Offer free inspections after storms. Be useful before you're needed.
Tell the Story Publicly: Take photos. Share team involvement. Post authentically on social. When your community sees your commitment, they remember it.
The goal? Become the business people already know and trust when they need help.
Most contractors look at ROI in 30-day windows. Community marketing works in 30-month cycles…but when it hits, it sticks. Because customers don’t forget the business that showed up before the sale.
Own your zip code before someone else does.
Action Step: Identify a local event happening soon and commit to sponsoring or attending the event…whether it's a farmer’s market, youth sports game, church picnic, or neighborhood block party. Don’t overthink it. Just show up, bring branded gear or water bottles, and connect.
Presence creates familiarity. Familiarity builds trust. Trust drives calls, especially when heatwaves, plumbing backups, or power outages strike.
God Bless America 🇺🇸
